RELIGION – Faith and Reason
This is a big subject and I am not intending to preach here. This page is more about my intersection with faith and how that maps into reason as I see it. It is a subject that has been very popular as I have aged. My faith has serviced my dedication to reason, and my reasoning has always been in service to my faith.
Notable passages from the bible:
"Thus, a good man, though a slave, is free; but a wicked man, though a king, is a slave. For he serves, not one man alone, but, what is worse, as many masters as he has vices." – St. Augustine, City of God
In terms of how reason fits in, and this will be a recurring theme, it is impossible to think clearly when ones mind is preoccupied with vice, or preoccupied with the justification of a vice. One is then a rationalization engine for the profane, rather than a herald for beauty, good and truth.
